The Great Myth
By: Derrick P. Rodgers

The acronym R.I.P. means “Rest in Peace” commonly used when someone die. The truth is: This only applies to those who die in Christ. If one die in their sin and do-not know Jesus Christ as their Savior their will be no peace.

So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

Then he cried and said, ‘Father …Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’ Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. (Luke 16:22, 24, 27-29)

According to the Word of God; life after death without Jesus is described as a “Place of Torment” known as hell.

R.I.P. may be the sympathetic thing to say when someone dies, but oftentimes it is a gross misrepresentation of the truth. While the term R.I.P is widely held but false in many cases, consistently establishes illusionary streams of thought that supports false hopes for the life here after.

The sure way to know if you will rest in peace is to come into authentic relationship with Jesus Christ the Son of God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and He is the only way to secure rest and peace when one dies. Why not repent now while you have a chance? Why not hear the voice of the prophets today? Turn from a life of sin, the wages are eternally sorrowful.
